WULFSPORT RACE REPORT
IST ROUND OF MAXXIS BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP
LYNG – 12TH MARCH 2006
Team
Wulfsport made its debut in the British Championships at the 1st
round at Lyng, Norfolk on Sunday 12th March 2006.
The
circuit was partially frozen after arctic-style temperatures overnight.
MX2
qualification was a close affair with only 0.7sec covering Nunn
in 3rd position to Shaun Simpson in 8th. Scott Probert, recovering
from a knee injury sustained at Hawkstone Park last weekend, ended
up in 14th. Adam Mckee qualified in 25th position – his best
showing so far.
MX2
Race 1 saw Probert and Simpson in the top 10. On lap 2, Simpson
had to take evasive action to miss a stricken Dougan, relegating
himself to 17th. Probert settled into a steady rhythm to finish
in 7th, with Simpson recovering to 8th. McKee crashed heavily on
lap 1, finishing 32nd.
In
MX2 Race 2, Simpson gated in 7th, with Probert in mid-pack. De Reuver
again set a blistering pace and wasn’t really challenged,
despite a mistake when trying to negotiate a backmarker. Simpson
settled into a steady 8th place which he held to the flag. Probert
steadily picked off riders on each lap and was up to 9th until a
small mistake on the last lap saw him fall back to 10th. McKee crashed
into the stricken first race winner Wayne Smith on lap 1, recovering
to 31st.
MX1
qualification was dominated by Ken de Dijker – 2.2secs quicker
than the rest of the pack! Gordon Crockard was in 3rd place during
the session, but ended up in 8th.
MX1
Race 1 saw Crockard gate in the top 10 and by lap 5 was up into
4th place behind de Dicker, Coppins & Noble. The leading trio
then started to drop GC by another 6 secs until 3 laps from home
when Gordon counterattacked and reeled in Noble during the closing
stages. Despite a number of challenges on the last lap, Crockard
narrowly missed out on a podium position to Noble by 1.4 secs.
MX2
Race 2 saw Crockard again start in the top 10, but 2 crashes during
the race saw him unable to challenge the leaders for the lead and
ended up in 6th postion at the flag.
All
things considered, it was a good day for Team Wulfsport, with 6
top 10 results in both classes.
